The Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 (Pub.L. 111-312, H.R. 4853), was finally passed by the United States Congress on December 16, 2010 and signed into law by President Barack Obama on December 17, 2010. The act extends current tax rates and also includes several other tax related measures, mostly notably a one-year reduction in the FICA payroll tax. The resulting MAS 90 and MAS 200 Tax Table Update files are now available for download from Sage Software!

The MAS 90/200 Payroll Tax Tables are system wide files. The installed tax tables are used to calculate payroll taxes for ALL MAS 90/200 companies. The installed tax tables are also used to calculate amounts that appear on W-2 forms and various payroll tax reports. Accordingly, it is imperative that tax tables for the correct year be installed when you process payrolls and related reports.

With the new tax law changes going into effect on January 1, 2011, you must update your MAS 90 or MAS 200 payroll tax tables prior to running your first payroll in 2011 to have the new rates applied correctly to employee pay amounts. The Q1 2011 Tax Table Update (TTU) that includes these changes was released by Sage Software on December 23, 2010 and is now available for download from the Sage site.

Sage Software supports and provides annual payroll tax table update for the for United States Federal and State tax tables. The Sage Software annual tax table update which is now available includes the changes for the new year. Local tax tables must be entered and updated manually. Sunrise Software Consultants, Inc. can assist in setting up local tax codes if needed.

Many governmental agencies change tax rates and limits throughout the year. Sage Software attempts to update these changes in a timely manner in Quarterly Tax Table Updates (TTU's). However, if Sage Software cannot make the changes until the annual update, you can make changes to the Tax Tables manually in Tax Table Maintenance. We can help you make these manual changes if needed.

Generally, the first-quarter TTU's must be installed after payroll year-end processing is completed for the old year and before the first payroll of the new year is processed. Usually, the last payroll period should be completed before installing the new TTU's. The TTU's are not version specific unless stated otherwise. The current TTU's can be installed on any supported version of Sage MAS 90 or 200.

Note that prior to closing the year in Payroll you should backup your current payroll data to a holding company. You will use that holding company to produce your W-2 and other tax reports and forms later in January.

Determining which Tax Table Update is Installed in MAS 90/200

You can verify which Tax Table Update is installed on your system by noting the quarter and version in the TTU nameand the release date listed in the following window:

  • For version 4.0 and later, select Library Master | Reports and double-click Installed Applications.

  • For version 3.71 and earlier, select Library Master | Utilities and double-click Installed Applications Listing.

 

Obtaining the MAS 90/200 Tax Table Update

To install the MAS 90/200 Tax Table Update you must obtain the correct update file from Sage Software. The Tax Table Updates are available at the Sage Software Online website. If you do not have access to the internet, Sunrise Software Consultants, Inc. can provide the Tax Table Update files on a CD for a modest fee. To download the TTU:

  1. Click here to go to the Sage Software Online site.
  2. Enter your User Name and Password then click on Login.
  3. Click the Supporttab, and click on the Sage MAS 90 and MAS 200 link.
  4. In the Downloadarea, and click on the Tax Table Updates link.
  5. Click the Download the TTU link for the desired tax table. The download link and instructions specific to the TTU version appear.
  6. Click the download link (for example: 2011Q1TTU.exe).
  7. The File Download dialog box appears.
  8. Click the Savebutton.
  9. The Save Aswindow appears.
  10. Select the location to save the file. Save the file to the hard drive of the workstation that the TTUs will be installed from.
